Taylor Business Institute

Academic Advising & Learning Support

Articulating the institution’s philosophy of academic advising begins with understanding the students who enroll in Taylor Business Institute. To ensure student success, each student receives regular individualized oversight from the academic advisors, the program chairs and the faculty.

Degree Auditing:  At Taylor Business Institute, student success is our number one priority.  The professional advising staff works with the students, as well as graduate students.  Academic advisors help students through their academic program, whether they need assistance with course registration, understanding the degree requirements and completion options, or getting connected with other resources at TBI. The College maintains accurate academic records such as transcripts and degree audits with the use of its administrative software. The responsibility of accuracy and timeliness of the student record lies with the office of registrar. Accurate student records are key to academic advising.

Tutoring

TBI employs faculty and peer tutors for the purpose of reinforcing the concepts learned in classes. The tutoring program has been institutionalized and is managed by a tutoring coordinator. Students appreciate the subject-specific tutoring services provided by TBI.  Taylor currently provides tutoring for courses offered in all discipline areas:

  • Communication (Speech and English)
  • Allied Health (Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, Medical Billing and Coding)
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences (Psychology and Critical Thinking)
  • Life Sciences (Environmental Biology)
  • Criminal Justice
  • MBS Refresher Seminars for Certification Prep
  • Mathematics
  • Office Technology (Keyboarding and Word Processing)

Most of the tutoring is provided by the faculty from the related discipline area.  In addition, two work study students provide tutoring: one offers assistance in mathematics and the other offers assistance related to medical billing coursework.
